My knee was acting up
My knee was acting up and I started having trouble standing and walking so I started using a cane. First thing I noticed was people treating me different, not necessarily better or worse just different. Usually on the streets of Saskatoon people are quite friendly and smile and say hello. Not quite so when I started using a cane. People never really looked me in the eye. They just sort of steered clear of me and never said a word. What the hell I wasn’t contagious. Maybe some of them thought I might hit them with my cane. Truth of the matter is the look on my face was pain not anger, they look the same I guess. So I could quit using my cane and sort of limped around. So now when I see someone with a cane or walker or wheelchair. I purposely make an effort to treat them like anybody else. I smile and say hello make light conversation like sure is cold or looks like rain. You know the Saskatchewan thing. Never thought much would come of it but I was blown away with people’s response instantly they brighten up and start smiling and talking. Actually hard to get them to stop talking (just kidding). Just another example of how looking outward not inward and the world becomes a better place every time.
